logoBaptism of Children

We look forward to welcoming families to church for baptism. It's always a time of joyful celebration when we want to thank God for our children. A child should usually be baptised in their or their parents’ parish church. You can download the Application Form from the bottom of this page here.

There are two points people may not be clear about so please understand:
a) all Baptisms are done during the main Sunday service (for times see Parish Website)
b) Church law requires that godparents should be baptised and confirmed but the minister does have some discretion. In my case I am willing to waive the requirement for Confirmation for all Godparents but one - so, putting it the other way around one Godparent must be both Baptised and Confirmed. Talk to me if that's a problem, there are ways of finding people who are confirmed to be Godparents, or one of your Godparents might be willing to be Confirmed.

You can see the Order of Service for Baptism by clicking here.

Baptism ImageQuestions

People often have questions they want to ask about the service so please contact us if you are worried about anything. If for any reason you decide not to go ahead with the arrangements please let us know as soon as possible.

There is a non-refundable Booking Fee of £30.00. Please see our Terms and Conditions for details.

There are some points you might like to bear in mind beforehand.

Parents and Godparents should ask themselves:

•    Are you prepared to the best of your ability to give the child a Christian upbringing within the church family?
•    Will you help the child to learn to pray and to attend public worship regularly?
•    Will you encourage the child in due time to come to Confirmation and Communion?

Choosing Godparents

1. It is usual to have three godparents, two of the same sex as the child and one of the opposite sex, but to have one godfather and one godmother is sufficient.
2. Parents may be godparents of their own children provided that the child has at least one other godparent.
3. Church law requires that godparents should be baptised and confirmed but the minister does have some discretion  (see above)
